Police: Chicago man arrested in Verizon robbery in Delavan
A Chicago man is being held at the Cook County Jail in Illinois after being arrested on charges related to a November armed robbery at the Verizon Wireless store in Delavan, according to Delavan police.
Anthony D. Harris, 22, was arrested on charges of armed robbery and false imprisonment more than three weeks ago, Police Chief Tim O'Neill said.
Harris and another man are suspected in a series of Verizon Wireless robberies in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, O'Neill said.
Charges were referred to the district attorney's office three weeks ago, O'Neill said, and they hinge on Harris' extradition.
When Harris was arrested, he was being held at the Cook County Jail on charges of aggravated battery and discharging a firearm, according to a police department news release made public Thursday.
Harris and another man are accused of entering the Delavan store, 1741 E. Geneva St., at 10:18 a.m. Nov. 22. One of them allegedly showed a gun before taking an employee's wallet and electronics from the store.
The second suspect has been identified, O'Neill said, but no arrest has been made.
The value of the merchandise was not released.
