David Lee Nitz, 81, died peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Agrace Center for Hospice and Palliative Care surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Janesville, on March 8, 1934, the son of Carl and Amy (Brockway) Nitz. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1953. David married Virginia H. Carlson on Aug. 3, 1957. He was employed as Parts and Service Manager by Harder’s Sales and Service for over 30 years and later worked as a custodian for the Janesville School System. David was active in the Rock River Thresheree Association and the Bower City Motorcycle Club. He was an avid motorcycle racer and a national champion motorcycle ice racer. David attended First Presbyterian Church.

David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Nitz; two daughters, Carla (Steven) Gamper of Atlanta, GA, Sheila Nitz of Janesville; four grandchildren: Daniel DeVoe, Michael Nitz, Jake and Ally Gamper; two great-grandchildren, Ezekiel and Adellynn DeVoe; his brother-in-law, Walter Carlson; and his sister-in-law, Christine Welcenbach; nieces and nephews: Carol, Sherry, John, and Britt. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, John Nitz; his sister, Saramae Harder; and his nephew, Tom Harder.

Visitation will be Monday, April 27, 2015, from 4 until 6 p.m. at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, Janesville. Further visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28th at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH followed by Funeral Services at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Emerald Grove Cemetery.
