Mary Frances Beverly Burrows, Coeur d'Alene, ID (1920-2015)
February 29, 1920 - April 3, 2015
Mary Frances Beverly Burrows, 95, of Coeur d'Alene, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, at Life Care of Coeur d'Alene. "Fran" was born in St. Augustine, FL, to Raleigh Dillvan (R.D.) and Pearl Reese Beverly on Feb. 29, 1920. She was the second of two girls born into the family. She went to high school at DeSoto County High School in Arcadia, FL, and graduated as valedictorian in 1938. Because of the Great Depression, she opted to go to work instead of attending college in order to supplement the family income. She worked as a teller for a local bank, and during World War II she was a secretary at Carlstrom Field, where she met and later married Verne Albert Burrows. The ceremony took place in Tampa, at the First Methodist Church on Sept. 5, 1942. She and Verne celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2012, before her husband's passing a few days later. As a young bride, Fran moved after the war to Verne's hometown of Janesville, WI, where she was a homemaker, mother, and community member. She was active at First Presbyterian Church of Janesville, as well as at Cargill Methodist Church, where she became a Stephen Ministry Care Giver and Leader. She served on the Board of Directors of the Janesville Women's Club of which she was a member as well as the Janesville Concert Association. She was also a volunteer for the Janesville Rotary Gardens and the Janesville Literacy Council. A life-long bridge player, Fran learned to play on the computer later in life. She loved to travel and became a reluctant camper to make sure that her family could afford to tour the country. A musician, she played piano from a young age and shared her talent at church as well as on the radio in the 30's. After her children were teenagers, she returned to work in the banking industry and retired from the Bank of Wisconsin in 1982, after 18 years. Subsequently, she taught a banking course at Blackhawk Technical College for eight years.
Fran is survived by her two daughters, Beverly Moss (Steve) of Coeur d'Alene, and Jeanne Jensen (Jim) of Evergreen, CO; five grandchildren: Jenny Benson, Susan Moss, Molly Moss, Scott Jensen, Peter Jensen; 12 great-grandchildren: Cole, Aden, Soren, Everett, Elias, Millie, Elly, Avery, Vivi, Julian, Leo, and Rey; and several nephews and a niece. Fran was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dorothy Catherine Carlton; her husband, Verne; a nephew, Robert Carlton; and sisters-in-law: Eva Moses, Ruth Decker, Dorothy Zigler, and Marguerite Teubert.
The family prefers memorial donations to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835, or the First Presbyterian Church Deacons Fund, 521 E Lakeside, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Legends Park Assisted Living and their caring staff as well as to Fran's team at Hospice of North Idaho.
