Harry A. Langer, age 85, of Edgerton, WI, passed to eternal life peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2015, while surrounded by family. He was born in Janesville, WI, on Nov. 26, 1929, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Wellnitz) Langer. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and received a Purple Heart after being wounded in action on May 10, 1953. On Nov. 26, 1955, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Betty) E. Hanlon at St. Patrick’s Church in Janesville. He retired from General Motors in 1983. Harry also farmed (raising tobacco) and loved to garden. One of his greatest joys was providing friends, neighbors, and family with the fruits of his labor. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed playing cards, bowling, dancing (polkas), and took up golf during his retirement. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Forresters, Independent Order of Forresters, and Moose Lodge 191, where he enjoyed the Friday night fish fries. He liked to travel and Alaska was the favorite of all places, having visited there four times.
Harry is survived by his wife, Betty; and children: Dennis (partner Harold Gable) of Janesville, WI, Carol (Gaylen) Reilly of Janesville, WI, David of Edgerton, WI, Teresa of Edgerton, WI, Mary (Mark) Houfe of Edgerton, WI, Monica Clark of Janesville, WI, Delores of Janesville, WI, Dorothy of Phoenix, AZ, and Francis (Sara) of Edgerton, WI; twenty-three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister Cecelia Williams; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip; sister, Rose Brown; and brothers: Joseph, Martin, and Edward.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH in Edgerton, WI, with Fr. Dave Timmerman officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, also at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH in Edgerton, WI, with a rosary following. ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATION SERVICES, Edgerton, are assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, any memorials received will be donated to various charities to be determined at a later date.
