Man stands mute to Janesville bar fight charges

JANESVILLE—A Janesville man stood mute Tuesday to charges that he caused severe injuries to another man in a Janesville bar fight on March 8.
Court Commissioner Stephen Meyer entered not-guilty pleas on behalf of James J. Cansler, 31, of 120 Linn St. upper.
Cansler is charged with substantial battery and disorderly conduct.
Meyer also bound Cansler over for trial after a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Rock County Court.
Cansler is accused of causing severe head injuries and taking out the victim's top row of teeth by kicking, punching and hitting him with a metal chair.
The disturbance was reported at 1:49 a.m. Sunday, March 8, at the Drunken Monkey, 1820 Center Ave., Janesville.
