Fire in Delavan apartment kills one
DELAVAN — A fire at an apartment complex in Delavan early Sunday morning resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man, according to the Delavan Police Department.
The Delavan 911 Center received a call at 1:38 a.m. reporting a fire at 501 Parish St. in Delavan, according to a news release from Delavan police.
Upon arrival, smoke and flames were found in the lower apartment unit, according to the release.
The Delavan Fire Department arrived at 1:46 a.m. and found a victim inside the lower apartment, according to the release. The victim was found to be badly burned and could not be revived, according to the release.
Two other residents of the complex escaped without injury, the release indicated.
The fire was brought under control in a short period of time, and was contained to the lower unit, according to the release.
The State Fire Marshall's office is investigating the incident. The American Red Cross is aiding the two displaced residents, according to the release.
The identity of the victim was not released.
