DELAVAN--The Walworth County Emergency Homeless Shelter will use a $5,000 grant from the Thrivent Financial Foundation to expand its services, according to a press release.

The shelter, based in Delavan, provides a safe place for homeless men to sleep from October to the end of April at 20 participating churches throughout the county.

The organization is participating in a fundraising campaign through Thrivent Financial Foundation based in Minneapolis, the release states.

For every dollar raised from donors until Feb. 28, the foundation will provide another 50 cents. The maximum the foundation will donate is $5,000.

A goal for the shelter is to add counseling and find a permanent location to offer its services, according to the release.

Founded in 2005, it helps an average of 14 to 20 men per night. Last year, 58 men were assisted for a total of 2,324 nights, with 630 meals served and 8,820 volunteer hours provided.

Donations can be addressed to Walworth County Emergency Homeless Shelter, P.O. Box 226. Delavan, WI 53115.
