Four goals in third lift Jets
The Janesville Jets blew open a 1-0 game by scoring four times in the third period to beat the Keystone Ice Miners 5-0 in an NAHL North Division matchup Friday night. The win kept the Jets in first place.
Both goaltenders—Jared Rutledge for the Jets and Alex Blankenburg for the Ice Miners—left the game about halfway through the second period after committing matching game misconduct penalties.
Janesville’s backup, Matt Jurusik, fared much better than Keystone’s Nick Kossoff, who allowed the four goals in the third period. Jurusik preserved the shutout with 18 saves.
Zach Yoder triggered the four-goal barrage in the third with a power-play goal about three minutes into the period. The trio of Roberts Smits, Cullen Munson and Kip Hoffmann connected twice to make it 3-0 and 4-0, then Evan Feno closed the scoring with 45 seconds to play.
The teams square off again at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
