Whitewater man dies in head-on crash in town of Troy
TROY TOWNSHIP—A Whitewater man died after his car hit a semi-truck early this morning in the Town of Troy, according to a release from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.
Titus J. Greenwood, 36, was found dead behind the wheel of his car by Walworth County deputies responding to a head-on crash between a semi-truck and trailer and a car on Wisconsin Highway 20, about one tenth of a mile west of Town Line Road at 5:51 a.m. Thursday.
Greenwood was the driver and sole occupant of a 2011 Honda Insight. He was wearing a seatbelt.
Initial investigation revealed that Greenwood was traveling eastbound on Highway 20 when his car crossed the center line into the westbound lane. The Honda was struck head-on by a 2013 International semi-truck and trailer operated by the United Rental Company out of East Chicago, Indiana.
The semi driver was identified as Paul J. Rasmusson, 38, of Racine. He was transported to a local hospital, but was not admitted.
Highway 20 was closed to traffic for about five hours while the Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit investigated the accident.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the release. An autopsy will be performed later this week to determine the exact cause of Greenwood's death.
