UW-Whitewater employee charged with theft from university
ELKHORN--A UW-Whitewater employee is accused of stealing more than $10,000 from the university to pay for expenses related to his cat and credit card.
Adam T. Hufnagel, 2518 E. Racine St., No.5, Janesville, is charged with theft from a business setting in Walworth County Court.
An audit from the university's Instructional, Communication and Information Technology Department showed Hufnagel stole more than $10,000 from October 2012 to March 2014, according to a criminal complaint.
The first time Hufnagel allegedly took money or parts worth $2,500 was in October 2012 to pay off his credit card and expenses related to his cat.
He would buy computers using money left in the office's register and resell the computers for a profit before depositing the money in his personal account, the complaint states.
