Power-play goals help Jets come from behind
The emphasis of the weekend series between the Janesville Jets and Soo Eagles turned out to be special teams.
The Jets scored three times on the power play Saturday to add to the five times they did so Friday to beat the Eagles 4-2 in the series finale. Janesville finished the two-game set with eight goals on 16 extra-man opportunities.
Janesville’s Adam Winborg opened the scoring Saturday, but Soo took the lead on two power-play goals of its own by John O’Conner with 1:59 left in the first and 14:19 left in the second.
Alex Smith pulled the Jets level before Winborg scored the game-winning goal—his second of the game—on a power play with 4:18 to go in the second.
Zach LaValle notched his sixth point of the series with a goal in the third period to secure the win.
Janesville returns to action Friday with a trip to La Crosse to play the Coulee Region Chill at 7 p.m.
