Black Point Estate named one of 10 best tours

LAKE GENEVA--On Sept. 25, Fodor's Travel named Black Point Estate one of the 10 best home estate tours in teh United States. Other historic estates on the list include the Biltmore and Monticello.

"To be included on this list is very rewarding and it helps to validate all the work that went into preserving Black Point Estate as a historic sites," said site director, David Desimone. "Preservation is never an easy endeavor and we are fortunate to have so much community support at this moment in our short history as a house museum."

Black Point Estate primarily is accessible via a boat ride provided by the Lake Geneva Cruise Line.

"The quality of the cruise line helps make a visit to Black Point Estate even more memorable and unique," Desimone said.

The historic estate added a number of special programs and tours in 2014 and plans are underway for even more in the 2015 season. Historic sites can help serve as a community building block; by expanding beyond traditional tours, the estate hopes to become a cultural resource for the region.

"Historic houses provide a wonderful space for all sorts of historically themed programming," Desimone said. "We are trying to be selective with program development because we have such a unique site located in a private residential neighborhood. High quality authentic programs are what we strive for."
