DARIEN -- Authorities are looking for Rooster, a horse they believe was stolen from a Darien farm paddock Monday night.

According to a Facebook post from the farm's owner, Justin Monty,  the gate of the paddock, located on the far south end of his property near a cornfield, was removed undamaged, and Rooster's prints lead down the edge of the field to the road where they end.

“The sheriff checked the ditch lines on both sides of the road and the prints don't pick up anywhere,” the post noted. “The case has gone from 'missing horse' to 'horse theft.'”

Monty's post noted a lead on the missing animal led him on a search that covered six counties and almost 300 miles, but turned up nothing.

If you have any information on the animal, please contact the Walworth County Sheriff's Office at 262-741-4400 and reference case # 14-032929.
