WALWORTH COUNTY -- The stage has gotten a little bigger for two bands that have been named semi-finalists in the Wisconsin School Music Association's Launchpad competition.

The Stumes, (FACEBOOK) a band from Badger High School that was a finalist a year ago, and Hours Left, (FACEBOOK) including members from Whitewater, Jefferson and Janesville Craig high schools, will perform May 7 at Wauawatosa East High School.

The top three finalists and an alternate will perform June 12 in Madison at the University of Wisconsin Theater.

The Stumes includes Daryl Cozzi, Tom Wike, Brian Murray and Jeremy Baker.

Hours Left features Troy Thorton of Janesville Craig, Marshall Lilly, Robert Wiley Deal and Lauren Dalzin of Whitewater High School and Josh Kurtz of Jefferson High School.

At the May 7 Milwaukee Regional competition at Wauwatosa East High School, The Stumes are scheduled to perform at 8:10 p.m., followed by Hours Left at 8:35 p.m.

Tickets are sold at the door. Adults $7, Students $6.

Launchpad provides another outlet for students to stretch the boundaries of their musical knowledge. "It's amazing to see what these students can accomplish when they take what they've learned from a music teacher and apply it in their own way to making music -- a special connection is made," said Michael George, WSMA executive director in a news release.

The competition is open to high school students who are in bands outside of school.

The top 15 semi-finalists from Launchpad entries are selected through a world-wide voting system of listeners on Broadjam.com, then compete June 12 in Madison for the grand prize: professional recording time, a 2010 Summerfest appearance and the Les Paul Launchpad Award.
