Are Google Maps becoming the digital nosey neighbor?
Google Maps announced its latest series of upgrades Friday, including even more details.
But the ever-increasing amount of information has some concerned.
According to Google's announcement, "… we've been steadily adding details like walkways, address labels, bus stops, new country coverage, and improved satellite imagery, but the look of the map hasn't changed much.
"Today's changes are intended to keep the same information-rich map while making it easier to pick out the information that is most useful."
But one poster on the TechCrunch blog notes that even individual lots in Walworth County are now mapped.
Jon (@jonh611) wrote, "I noticed another change, at least for my county in Wisconsin. They actually have the individual lots mapped out! I’ve only found this done for Walworth County, though.
"Anybody have more info on this? How long before someone can click on a lot and send an e-mail, or a tweet, to the owner? It’s almost starting to get creepy. Almost."
In the newspaper business, Google Maps has become an invaluable too. Reporters and photographers never leave the office for an assignment without their Google Map printout in hand.
We've used the street view images to confirm things like the locations of Ginny Hall's Mystery place.
But now, we can even find a bus stop.
It's a new frontier, and in theory, there are limits. What those limits are however, are apparently yet to be determined.
