4:41 a.m., Sept. 5, 2009 -- Saturday was crowded on the north end of the fairgrounds as spectators took in a variety of horse shows. The open class keyhole and pole races took place outside the horse arena, part of Walenton's Speed Show. Across the road, competitor's took part in the women's cart show. Meyer is Supreme Champion junior dairy winner
6:47 p.m., Sept. 4, 2009 -- Roxy, a 4-year-old Holstein raised by Tyler Meyer of Delavan-Darien FFA was named Supreme Champion junior dairy cow Friday at the Walworth County Fair. Stop by the Gazette booth at the fair and pick up a free copy of Saturday's paper with more on Meyer. STORY
As expected, calf born at the fair
4:40 p.m., Sept. 4, 2009 -- Randy and Vonda Greidanus, who operate Diamondhead Holsteins in Delavan, knew today was the due date for a new calf. And the calf wasn't late. Fairgoers in the calf barn got a good view of what farmers go through when a calf if born. "We drew quite a crowd," Randy said. The calf is resting comfortably near the Gridanus' other cattle. Popp wins Country Idol contest
10 a.m., Sept. 3, 2009 -- Bryan Popp, 29, of Platteville took home the $1,000 prize Thursday evening as the Country Idol winner. Popp competed in last year’s Country Idol competition, although this is the first time he has won a singing competition, he said. He also has performed in Nashville Star, the country music competition television series on NBC . More in today's Gazette. STORY

Contestants await results for tonight's County Idol finals
12:45 p.m., Sept. 3, 2009 -- Twelve performers took to the stage Wednesday evening with hopes of making it to tonight's Country Idol finals.
Photos from Wednesday's semi-final round are HERE.
The six finalists will be announced at 6 p.m. at the Park Stage, before performing one last time before the judges.
The winner will open Friday evening before the Craig Morgan show.

Maura Wieners named Fairest of the Fair

4:21 p.m., Sept. 2, 2009 -- Steve Leffelman's boxer-stuffed hat with matching "Let's be 'brief'" T-shirt won the Funniest Hat contest Wednesday at the Walworth County Fair. Read the story HERE. More photos are HERE.
1:27 p.m., Sept. 2, 2009 -- Reporter Pedro Oliveira Jr. just completed an interview with Mary Lou Meyer of Meyervilla Farm in Darien, one of the longest animal exhibitors at the fair.
This year is her 46th consecutive year showing Holsteins, longer than nearly anyone else.
She told Oliveira what she enjoys most is coming back every year and getting together with her friends.

11:10 a.m., Sept. 2, 2009 -- Terry Punzel, who's manning the Walworth County Gazette booth this morning, says business is steady.
The booth is located behind the junior exhibits building.
Today's drawing is for a four-person pass to Riverside Golf Course in Janesville. Entrants are also put into the final drawing for $250 cash. Tomorrow's drawing will be a one-night stay at the Holiday Inn and Suites in Janesville.
