a similar conspiracy theory followed the jap attack on pearl harbor. Roosevelt let it happen to give the us a reason to get involved in an unpopular war, one the citizens wanted to stay out of. the fact is, it it were true, the us could have intercepted the japs before they ever got to our shores (a huge fleet of carriers and destroyers coming our way could be construed as an act of war) and gotten the same results without the devastation of our pacific fleet and the loss of three thousand or so lives.
the same might be said about 9/11. it there were a conspiracy, and it was known by our government prior, we could have done something to attain the sympathy of the citizens without killing over 2400 of our citizens (including the pentagon building duh!) and still garnered the sympathy of the citizens for action against terrorists.
