Burlington police warn of counterfeit bill scam
BURLINGTON The Burlington Police Department is alerting the public to a recent counterfeit bill scam.
Police said a counterfeit $100 bill was used at a Burlington business on March 15. The counterfeit bill is actually a real five dollar bill that has been bleached out and reprinted as a $100 bill. This means that the checking pens will show it as real and it will have a watermark and security strip on it. The watermark will show Lincoln and the strip will show “US Five.”
Police are asking employers to pass this information along to their employees and to notify the Burlington Police Department immediately at (262) 342-1100, if someone receives one of these counterfeit bills.
