911 calls released from Echo Lake Foods

Newly released 911 calls for a devastating 8-alarm fire Jan. 30 at Echo Lake Foods in Burlington reveal supervisors and employees of the plant looking out for each other as they alerted authorities to the fire.

On one call to 911, a supervisor is heard helping employees get out of the building and checking to be sure employees were together and safe.

The fire, which started in a processing room and spread, cause $40 million in damage. Plant officials said they plan to rebuild.

Some 300 employees lost their jobs because of the fire.

A bowling fundraiser will be held Sun., April 21 at Towne & Country Lanes, 264 S. Pine St., Burlington, to benefit the Employee Relief Fund for Echo Lake Foods employees. For more information, call (262) 763-7333.
