Bloomfield man pleads guilty to Sugar Creek bank robbery

MILWAUKEE — A Bloomfield man accused of armed bank robberies in Wisconsin and Illinois pleaded guilty in federal court Friday to an August bank robbery north of Elkhorn.
Robert Lynn, 30, admitted in a plea agreement to stealing $31,390 in an armed robbery at the Peoples Bank, W5109 Highway A, Elkhorn, on Aug. 24.
He entered guilty pleas to one count of bank robbery by force or violence and one count of using a gun during a violent crime.
Lynn will face up to 25 years in prison on the first count, and a mandatory minimum of seven years in prison on the second, Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly Brown Watzka said. Sentencing is scheduled for June 19.
McHenry County, Ill., is hoping to extradite Lynn to charge him for a pair of robberies there, clerk of courts Kathy Keefe said.
He is accused of a robbery in September 2011 and an armed bank robbery in December 2011, Keefe said.
According to a plea agreement filed in the Wisconsin federal case last week, Lynn pretended to be doing garbage pickup in front of the Elkhorn bank and requested a signature from an employee verifying his work. He then pulled a handgun and demanded money.
A customer happened to walk into the bank during the robbery, and Lynn ordered him inside the bank’s vault along with three tellers, according to court documents.
Lynn repeatedly pointed his gun at the tellers, according to the agreement, and threatened to kill them.
He was captured after a car chase, authorities said. Walworth County Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Nichols shot Lynn in the arm when Lynn tried to run over Nichols with his car, Sheriff David Graves said.
