A 17-page report from the City of Burlington’s fire inspector calls factors behind the fire at Echo Lake Foods in January undetermined, but label the cause accidental, according to a Fox6 News story.

The report, released yesterday, ruled out criminal intent as the cause behind the Jan. 30 fire that virtually destroyed the plant. The fire caused more than $40 million in property damage. More than 80 agencies in southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois provided assistance.

The report noted that while the plant had operating smoke detectors and an automatic extinguisher system, the fire broke out in a part of the facility that was not protected by the extinguisher.

Further details on the fire’s origins are expected to be released later this month.
