Update: Toddler dies after Walworth Township pit bull attack
WALWORTH TOWNSHIP A 14-month-old boy who was attacked by two pit bulls early this afternoon and was transported by the Flight For Life helicopter to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin with critical injuries has died, according to a news release from the Walworth County Sherieff's Office.
According to the release, the Walworth County Coroner's Office confirimed the boy died at 3:32 p.m. Wednesday.
An adult woman, identified in the release as Susan Iwicki, 30, also was injured in the attack, according to the release.
Authorities received a 911 call about 12:45 from Iwicki reporting that she and the boy were being attacked by two dogs she owns at a home on North Lakeshore Drive in Walworth Township.
Deputies and rescue personnel responded to the scene and removed the animals. The dogs were euthanized.
Iwicki told deputies she owns the property where the attack occurred, but the news release doesn't indicate her relationship with the boy. However, a WISN12 News reporter said he spoke with the property owner's son, James Geupel, who believed Iwicki was babysitting the toddler at the time of the incident.
The boy was transported first to Mercy Walworth Medical Center, then flown by helicopter to Children's Hospital, where he died.
The Sheriff's office is continuing its investigation.
