Hearings on endangered species rescheduled

— Public hearings on proposed revisions to Wisconsin’s endangered and threatened species list scheduled for March 5 at various locations around Wisconsin have been cancelled and a hearing has been rescheduled due to the potential for a severe winter storm. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Advisories and Warnings for much of Wisconsin from Monday night through Tuesday.

As a result the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has cancelled public hearings on the proposed revisions to the state endangered and threatened species list that were scheduled by video conference at Milwaukee, Green Bay and Eau Claire and a public hearing scheduled for Madison.

The public hearings on the proposed list revisions will now be held:

• March 6, Wausau - 4 p.m., Marathon County Public Library - Wausau room (3rd Floor), 300 North First St. (not sponsored by the library).

• March 11, Madison - 5 p.m., State Natural Resources Building – room G09, 101 S. Webster, Madison There will be live meeting availability for those who are unable to attend in person. This is a RESCHEDULE of the March 5 meetings, which were cancelled due to severe weather.

The public hearings are on the department’s proposal is to remove 16 birds, plants and other animals and to add eight species to the list of endangered or threatened species. An additional 20 scientific names would also be updated under the proposed revisions. For more information on the proposal, search the DNR website for keywords ET list.

Written comments, whether submitted electronically or by U.S. mail, will have the same weight and effect as oral statements presented at the public hearings. Comments may be submitted until March 7, 2013.
