ELKHORN The Walworth County Literacy Council will hold its fourth annual Adult Spelling Bee on March 7 at the Sperino’s Monte Carlo Room in Elkhorn. The night’s activities include a silent auction, three-course dinner and the spelling bee. This year two of the Milwaukee Brewers Famous Racing Sausages will compete in the contest.
The cost of the evening is $25. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (262) 957-0142 or (262) 877-3988. Leave a message and somebody will get back to you to confirm your reservation.
Funds raised from the spelling bee will be used to purchase books and supplies and to cover costs involved in running the literacy program. Thrivent Financial has provided matching funds.
The Walworth County Literacy Council matches volunteer tutors with adult learners throughout the county. The one-on-one classes focus on English as a second language, adult basic education G.E.D preparation and citizenship preparation. Classes are held throughout Walworth County community, mainly in libraries. The literacy council also runs a jail literacy program in Elkhorn.
