Deputy's weapon fired at Lakeland Hospital during altercation
ELKHORN A Walworth County Sheriff's deputy's weapon fired Monday evening at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center during an altercation with a prisoner, according to news reports.
The prisoner was a patient at the hospital, which is located across the street from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened shortly before 7 p.m., according to scanner traffic.
Officials told WTMJ that it was an isolated incident and not an active shooter incident.
Adam Beeson with Aurora Healthcare told WISN TV that he could not release any information on the patient's condition due to privacy concerns.
No other staff members or patients were in danger during the incident, Beeson said. He noted the incident did not occur in the emergency department.
The hospital did not close down but remained open during the incident.
The Waukesha County Sheriff's office is investigating because the incident involved a Walworth County deputy.
More information is expected to be released Tuesday.
