— State-rated Milwaukee Marquette and Griff Jeszka were too tough for the Janesville Blubirds on Tuesday night.

Jeszka had a hat trick to lead Marquette to a 4-1 nonconference win over Janesville's high school boys co-op hockey team.

Marquette (11-3-1) took a 1-0 lead after one period and pushed the margin to 3-0 after two.

"They've got a real good first line," Janesville coach John Mauermann said of Marquette. "

"But I thought we played one of our better games of the season. Our forwards were physical and there were scoring chances throughout. We just didn't finish at the net."

Clay Simonson scored Janesville's lone goal at 7:07 of the third period.

Janesville (4-10-0) hosts Middleton in a Big Eight Conference game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Janesville Ice Skating Center.
