Here's the mystery scene on a 1908 postcard submitted by Town of Darien resident Dale Wheelock, who suspects the photos was taken somewhere in Walworth County. Photo submitted.

Do you recognize this scene from 1908? Town of Darien resident Dale Wheelock, an avid historical postcard collector, suspects the photo was taken somewhere in Walworth County. One clue is the sign on the side of the barn near the railroad tracks. When Wheelock enlarged it, the sign read, “Walworth Fair.” The postmark on the card is from 1908. Wheelock did contact officials from the only other Walworth County in the United States, Walworth County, S.D., who told him their first fair wasn’t until 1913, so the photo predates that fair. The photo is also posted at Facebook.com/WalworthCountyToday. If you think you know where this was taken, post an answer online.

Guesses so far:

--Village of Walworth, where the gypsum plant is.
--Any chance it is the old ice house/depot/feed mill by 67 & Clark Street in Elkhorn?
--Don't think it is Elkhorn, maybe Springfield by the bike path?
--eader Sue of Elkhorn says the postcard was taken in Alden, Ill. The train tracks went through her parent's farm, which still is in the family today.
