Milton earns Rock County swim title

JANESVILLE — Milton High won the Rock County Championship boys swimming meet for the second straight season but it didn't stop host Craig High from having a good time, too.

The Red Hawks posted 457 points to repeat as champions and Craig earned 359.5 points for second place. Beloit Memorial scored 293.5 and Parker earned 192 points.

The Cougars swept the 200 and 500 freestyles and won the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.45). Jimmy Loftus won the 200 (1:53.74) and the 500 free (5:13.73).

Travis Condon finished second in the 200 free and teammate Peter Loftus was third. Peter Loftus took second in the 500 and Condon was third. Condon, Troy Thornton, Tad Martin and Jimmy Loftus combined to win the 400 free relay.

"We were very pleased with the results," Craig coach Brian Kitzman said. "Our goal was to finish second because we knew Milton was going to be a little ahead of us.''

Milton senior Spencer Mattox, who swam his freshman year at Craig, won the 200 individual medley relay (1:59.32) and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.18). Brandon Benson won the 50 free (23.50) and 100 butterfly (54.36) and Jack Lunaas won the 100 freestyle (49.75) and the 100 backstroke (56.27) for the Red Hawks.

Tommy Dvorak finished second in the 50 free and 100 butterfly for Parker.
