Pullam's rebound basket gives Parker boys road win
KENOSHA Kristian Pullam extended the season Tuesday night for Janesville Parker's boys basketball team.
The reserve guard's putback as time expired lifted the Vikings to a 56-54 win over Kenosha Bradford in a WIAA Division 1 regional game.
Parker (4-19) plays at top-seeded Mukwonago at 7 p.m. Friday night.
Bradford (4-18) took a 54-52 lead with 1:42 left, but Parker's J.J. Scott tied the game with 42 seconds left on a driving layup.
The Red Devils worked the clock down for the last shot, but Scott stole the ball at midcourt with four seconds left and got a shot off with just over a second remaining. Scott missed, but Pullam was right there for the rebound and putback to give Parker a tournament-opening win for the third straight year.
"We had a bunch of guys step up tonight, and no one was bigger than Kristian Pullam," Parker coach Ryan Masterson said. "He had a couple of other big baskets for us.
"Our kids really played hard, and considering we were coming off a really tough loss last Friday to (Janesville) Craig, I couldn't be more proud of their effort tonight."
Scott and David Palan shared scoring honors for Parker with 12 points each, while Mitch Treinen added 10 points. Parker played without starting point guard Adam Thompson, who is out for the rest of the season with mononucleosis.
Masterson knows the Vikings will have their hands full with top-seeded Mukwonago.
"They're good-sized and very physical," Masterson said of the Indians. "They almost knocked off Madison Memorial last year with a lot of those same guys back this year.
"But we've played well our last few games, and if we put forth the effort we did for most of the game tonight and against Craig, we can play with them."
