Committee still stalled over gravel pit plan

TOWN OF MILTON — If hesitancy is an art form, the town of Milton Planning and Zoning Committee is breaking new ground in artistic expression.

The committee seemed poised to make a recommendation Monday to the town board on a permit request for a gravel pit plan along North Klug Road that's been hanging fire more than a year.

The committee and the town board met jointly to hear a consultant's presentation on a study of town questions involving the impacts of a gravel pit proposed by Elkhorn developer Amon & Sons.

While the committee used the consultant's presentation to craft more than 30 special conditions it would require if the town approved the pit permit, it stalled on handing the board a recommendation of whether to approve the permit application.

The committee tabled the recommendation until its March 11 meeting with members saying the board needed time to have town attorney Dave Moore review and formalize its list of conditions.

The decision came after the committee concluded that, based on the consultant's study, the proposed pit failed to comply with town rules on 11 of the 12 environmental and logistical questions the committee sought answers to.

The committee formed its recommendations for special conditions after it found the plan fell short complying with town rules.

John Webb was the only committee member who voted Monday to give the board a recommendation on the permit request filed jointly by Amon & Sons and landowner Scott Traynor of Milton.
