— The Brodhead City Council voted 3-2 on Monday to form a fire district with the Brodhead Rural Fire Association.

One council member abstained from the vote, Mayor Doug Pinnow said.

The change will become effective at the city council's Feb. 25 meeting when officials sign documents and appoint three commissioners to the district, Pinnow said.

The city's approval follows the rural fire association's 7-1 vote Jan. 30 to approve the district.

Creation of a fire district would not change the fire and rescue services provided or the area served. It would create a new administrative structure.

The association represents towns covered by the fire department outside the city. Officials from the towns of Avon, Spring Valley and Magnolia in Rock County and the towns of Decatur and Spring Grove in Green County are association members.
