BBB warns businesses of 'Corporate Records' scam
MADISON The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau issued a warning about a scam from a company called "Corporate Records Service," which is trying to get Wisconsin businesses to pay for unnecessary services, according to a story in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Corporate Records Service sends a formal-looking "Annual Minutes Form" to businesses, implying they must comply with a new state requirement. Businesses are asked to send $125 to a Madison address.
The Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions said in a news release that the form is not a new requirement from the department.
An investigator with the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau, said the address provided in the letter - 1360 Regent St., #161, Madison WI 53715 - appears to be a UPS store with a rented box number.
Business owners who have questions about the form can contact the Department of Financial Institutions at (608) 266-1622.
