Postcard mystery: Is this photo taken in Walworth County?

By STAFF - Monday, Jan. 14, 2013

Do you recognize this scene from 1908? Town of Darien resident Dale Wheelock, an avid historical postcard collector, suspects the photo was taken somewhere in Walworth County. One clue is the sign on the side of the barn near the railroad tracks. When Wheelock enlarged it, the sign read, “Walworth Fair.” The postmark on the card is from 1908. Wheelock did contact officials from the only other Walworth County in the United States, Walworth County, S.D., who told him their first fair wasn’t until 1913, so the photo predates that fair. The photo is also posted at Facebook.com/WalworthCountyToday. If you think you know where this was taken, post an answer online.
