Beloit Council to vote on land sale to Ho-Chunk

The Beloit City Council will decide Monday night whether to sell 41.5 acres of city property to the Ho-Chunk Nation at the site of the tribe’s proposed casino for $1.87 million.

Judge returns homicide suspect to mental health facility

Judge James Forbeck on Friday ordered Keith Abbott, 49, formerly of Palmyra, returned to Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison for 90 days. Abbott is accused of killing his stepson's partner, Kristin Miller, 33, Racine, and hiding her body in rural Rock County in January 2011.

The state is projecting $1.3 billion in surplus revenue over the next two-year budget cycle. The governor and Legislature should stand up for students and invest some of those funds in our public schools.
