Whitewater quarry to be fenced
WHITEWATER The Whitewater quarry where two University of Wisconsin-Whitewater students were found dead over the last year will now have a fence around its perimeter, according to a story in Royal Purple News, the university’s newspaper.
The story noted officials from Whitewater Limestone Inc., which is co-owned by the Elkhorn-based firm of BR Amon & Sons, Inc., will secure their property with a fence.
Currently only a partial fence, heavy brush and no trespassing signs are present at the quarry, located less than two miles from the university. Under state law, the non-metallic mining business isn’t required to be fenced, but officials said they plan to fence the property by the winter of 2012.
The bodies of two UW-Whitewater students were found at the quarry—one in May of 2011 and two months ago.
