— Come for the game, stay for the fireworks.

Bryan Olson, a sales representative and licensed operator for J&M Displays, has offered to put on a free fireworks show during the Delavan-Darien High School’s Comets homecoming game Friday, Sept. 28, vs. Westosha Central. DDHS is located at 150 Cummings St., Delavan.

Olson, who is a DDHS class of 1975 graduate and the father of a DDHS graduate and a current senior, said the show will have several parts for fans to enjoy.

Fireworks will go off prior to the start of the 7 p.m. game at appropriate times during the National Anthem and when Comet players are announced. A larger display will take place following the conclusion of the game, about 9:30 p.m.

The post-game display will last about 5 to 7 minutes. Those fireworks will be lit off from the DDHS soccer complex, just west of George W. Borg Memorial Field.

The pre-game display will be lit off from the Phoenix Middle School parking area. That will give spectators a good view of the American flag while watching the pre-game show, Olson said.

The fireworks will be a celebration of both current and former Comets and of the 50 years of athletics at Borg Memorial Stadium, which underwent renovations prior to the start of this school year.

Among the stadium improvements were: a new stadium scoreboard; new security fencing around the bleachers, field and entrance area; new and repaired concrete in the concessions area and aisle ways of the stadium; new areas for fans who use wheelchairs; a new wheelchair ramp leading to the stadium from the main DDHS parking lot; new landscaping features outside the stadium; renovated team rooms and bathrooms; an expanded concession stand with an additional order-window; relocated ticket windows to improve the flow of fans coming into the stadium; a new roof on the building with gutters and downspouts installed; and a cleaned and polished George W. Borg Memorial Field dedication plaque that’s ready to greet fans for another 50 years of Comet sports.
