— A proposal from board members of the Lakeshore Library System to explore merging with another system was turned down, according to a story in the Racine Journal Times.

The Lakeshore Library System, which includes 15 libraries in Walworth counties and Racine, asked Mid-Wisconsin Federated Library System, which includes 27 libraries in Dodge, Washington and Jefferson counties, to explore a merger.

Board members from Mid-Wisconsin said they wanted to wait until a new system director is appointed to discuss any changes to their system.

Lakeshore Library System Director Kristen Hewitt said pooling resources remains the best way for libraries to use diminishing resources.
