Lake Geneva boat show turns back the clock

A crowd gathers along the docks to view the classic boats, including this wooden boat at last year’s Antique and Classic Boat Show at The Abbey Resort marina in Fontana. The 13th annual International Antique and Classic Boat Show will take place next weekend, Sept. 28-30, at the Abbey. It’s free and open to the public.
LAKE GENEVA You don’t have to love old boats to love the antique and classic boat show held this weekend in Fontana. The Geneva Lakes Boat Show is an annual event held in the Abbey Resort’s harbor, presented by the Blackhawk Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society. Scheduled this year for Sept. 28-30, the show features classic and vintage boats from all over the country. The boats are marvelous to look at, combining workmanship, art and utility.
While the cost to own and maintain these classic boats can be enormous, the public doesn’t have to spend a penny to enjoy looking at them. The public may view the hundred or so classic and antique boats when they dock at the Abbey Resort’s harbor Saturday and Sunday. A boat parade is scheduled for Saturday.
Expect to see Chris-Crafts, Streblows and wooden Gage-Hackers, all classics in the world of watercraft. You may see a few oddities too — last year a cherry red Amphicar stole more than a few looks. Typically more than 200 boats were gathered at the marina. The show is held rain or shine — after all, boats are made to get wet.
