Lake Geneva's Badger High School students in social studies teacher Mike Lorenz's class got an up close and personal history lesson on the Civil War by Delavan Civil War enthusiast Ken Monroe and other presenters. Submitted photo.

Students in Mike Lorenz’s social studies classes were treated to Civil War re-enactment demonstrations by local resident and Civil War enthusiast Ken Monroe on Sept. 13th. Students were able to learn about the Civil War up close with presentations complete with uniforms, weaponry and other memorabilia.

Monroe brought a Civil War cannon and demonstrated its use to students. Lorenz is excited to be able to expose his students to such hands-on experiences. His hope is that by taking lessons from the textbook to real-life students will be able to attach emotion and experience to what they have read, making it more impactful and meaningful.

Demonstrating with Monroe were Collene Monroe, Dan Lechowicz, Greg Bochinak, Steve Mazias and Dennis Brennan.
