Hispanic Heritage Festival coming to Delavan

— Delavan-Darien community members are planning a first-ever Hispanic Heritage Festival in the city of Delavan, scheduled for 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sat., Sept. 22, at the Phoenix Park Bandshell (intersection of Washington and Second streets).

The free festival is being held during National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) and is being conducted to not only promote Hispanic heritage, but also, in the spirit of unity, to bring all citizens of Delavan and the surrounding communities together to promote a unified, inclusive community for everyone.

Among the activities included at the event are vendor booths, mariachi, a kid’s corner with games and face painting, folk dancers, a singing contest, a bounce house, community speakers, authentic Hispanic food, a disc jockey and more.

Delavan-Darien School District Superintendent Dr. Robert Crist and other city of Delavan officials will be guest speakers at the event.

The event is being put on by the Regional Alliance of Students and Professionals and the La Luz Del Mundo (Light of the World) Church in Delavan.

Hispanic Heritage Festival schedule of activities:

10 a.m. – noon: music

Noon – 1 p.m.: mariachi

1 p.m. – 2 p.m.: ceremony and speakers from:

-- city of Delavan

-- School District of Delavan-Darien

-- Delavan Police Department

-- DREAM, Scholars, and Colleagues

-- Regional Alliance of Students and Professionals

2 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.: singing contest

2:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.: live entertainment, folk dancers
