— Volunteers are needed for one hour a week in helping elementary students with the Reading Enrichment and Developmental Success program at Darien Elementary, Turtle Creek Elementary, Wileman and Joint 1 District in Lake Geneva.

The R.E.A.D.S. program serves students in grades two through five who have difficulty with reading. One student is paired with one mentor each day of the week—the mentor can choose morning or afternoon. The student and mentor work together on a lesson that is prepared for them when they come to the R.E.A.D.S. room. The mentors have two students, each for one half-hour.

The program runs Monday through Thursday at each school. Mentors need choose only one day to volunteer—not all four.

Volunteer Connection director Patti O’Brien said many mentors find volunteering in the program a fulfilling experience, and student also enjoy working with a caring adult and form long-term bonds.

For more information or to volunteer, contact O’Brien at (262) 472-9632.

This is a terrific program for all involved. It is also an opportunity for local businesses to help in their communities by allowing an employee to become a mentor for one hour a week. Please consider becoming a volunteer.
