Former UW-Whitewater star athlete arrested
ELKHORN Levell L. Coppage, who holds all-time leading rushing records at UW-Whitewater, is facing felony drug charges.
Coppage, 22, is charged with four felony counts of manufacturing/delivery of marijuana, one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana and one misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Walworth County Circuit Court.
Coppage was the star running back for the Warhawks during their three national championships in 2009, 2010 and 2011. He completed his athletic eligibility at the end of the 2011 season.
The UW-Whitewater student directory lists Coppage as a student. His address is listed as 213 N. Fraternity Lane, No. 206, Whitewater.
UW-Whitewater Athletic Director Paul Plinske said he was saddened to hear about the charges. “Levell was a tremendous student-athlete for us,” Plinske said. “He was transitioning to a full-time student to complete his requirements for graduation.
