Suspect arrested after fleeing Whitewater police with children in tow

— A male suspect who took two children from a Whitewater residence during a family disturbance Monday afternoon and fled from police was arrested by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release from the Whitewater Police Department.

The two children were taken to an area hospital, but the extent of their injuries is not known at this time.

Whitewater police were called to a Janesville Street residence in Whitewater shortly before 4 p.m. Monday concerning a child who had been cut during a domestic disturbance involving the adult male suspect and several family members, according to the release.

Before police arrived, the suspect had fled the home with the two children.

Two additional victims who had fled the house were taken to Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital by the Whitewater Rescue Squad.

A Rock County deputy who saw the suspect’s vehicle began a pursuit, assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Beloit Township and the City of Beloit Police Department.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident remains under investigation.

Whitewater police officers were assisted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Police Services, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department, the Whitewater Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
