Update: 11-year-old Delavan girl killed in car crash identified

— An 11-year-old Delavan girl died at the scene of a crash that occurred Wednesday evening in the town of Whitewater has been identified as Avery McCarthy, according to a news release from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.

The accident happened on Wisconsin Highway 89, south of Island Road in the town of Whitewater, according to a release from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office. (MAP)

Sheriff's deputies were notified of a single-vehicle crash on Wednesday, and found a 2003 Nissan Sentra had left Highway 89 and struck a utility pole, ending up severely damaged.

The release said the driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old female, had exited the vehicle.

Two female passengers, one 17 and Avery were trapped with critical injuries and had to be extricated.

The 17-year-old was in the front passenger seat. Avery was in the back seat.

The 17-year-old passenger was transported by Flight For Life to an area hospital, but her status is not known at this time.

The names of the other two juveniles have not yet been released, according to the release.

Highway 89 was shut down for about three hours during the crash investigation.

The Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit was part of the investigation, which remains ongoing.
