— As of Wednesday, Nov. 21, the local Salvation Army had raised $33,473 or 10.3 percent of its $325,000 Christmas campaign goal.

That amount is $6,492 behind donations at this time last year, according to a Salvation Army news release.

The 2012 Red Kettle Campaign accounts for nearly one-third of the Janesville Salvation Army's total cash budget.

Sources of the annual Christmas campaign income include red kettle donations, mail appeal solicitation and unsolicited—walk-in/mail-in—donations.

The red kettles and volunteer bell-ringers kicked off this holiday season Nov. 16 in Janesville.

Additional volunteer bell-ringers are needed. Anyone interested in volunteering can call 608-757-8300 or access information online at www.janesvilleSA.org.

During the holidays, the local Salvation Army also will sponsor:

-- Santa's Workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at First Lutheran Church, 612 N. Randall Ave. This Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary-sponsored project provides the opportunity for school-age children from throughout Rock County to do their Christmas shopping for adults in their households. All gifts will be 25 cents. Donations of appropriate adults gifts—especially for dads—are needed and can be dropped off at the Salvation Army, 514 Sutherland Ave.

-- The Angel Tree and Adopt-A-Family, where people can buy a Christmas gift for a specific child or adopt a family for Christmas Day.

-- The Toy Shop. New unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Salvation Army, 514 Sutherland Ave., for distribution to needy children.
