Clinton downs Brodhead in conference opener

Clinton High's boys basketball team began defense of its Rock Valley South title with an impressive win Tuesday night.

Eric DeLong scored 20 points, and Jalen McMartin added 14 as the Cougars coasted past Brodhead, 63-51.

Clinton (1-1, 1-0) trailed by seven after one quarter but outscored Brodhead 20-9 in the second to take a 31-27 halftime lead.

Josiah DeLorme of Brodhead led all scorers with 22 points, including four three-point baskets.

Christian Hobson and Jared Masterson combined for 41 points for Parkview (1-1, 1-0).

Turner's Evan Metzger had 27 points to lead all scorers.

-- Edgerton 56, Elkhorn 45—Elkhorn hit a cold streak in the second quarter, and the visiting Crimson Tide took advantage in the nonconference win.

Edgerton outscored the Elks, 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 33-20 halftime lead. Edgerton hit five three-pointers in the first half.

Adam Converse scored 15 points, and Evan Deegan added 10 for Edgerton (2-0).

Drew Bryson led the Elks (1-1) with 12 points.
