Fort Atkinson man hospitalized after head-on crash in Whitewater
WHITEWATER TOWNSHIP A Fort Atkinson man suffered multiple injuries after a two vehicle head-on crash early Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 12 near Indian Mound Parkway in the town of Whitewater, according to a release from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.
David L. Wegner, 54, of Fort Atkinson was extricated from his 2004 GMC Envoy by Whitewater Fire and Rescue crews and flown by Flight for Life to a hospital, but his condition is not known at this time.
William D. Fojut, 53, of Whitewater, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where he was later released with minor injuries.
According to the release, sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at about 4:38 a.m. Nov. 13, and found two vehicles in the eastbound lane of Highway 12.
A preliminary investigation revealed Fojut was traveling westbound on Highway 12 in a 2009 Chevy pickup truck when he crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane of Highway 12. Wegner, who was driving eastbound, was struck head on.
Both men were wearing their seatbelts and both vehicles had airbag deployment.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are considered contributing factors to this crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Whitewater Police Department, and Whitewater Fire and Rescue Departments.
