WALWORTH COUNTY — The federal holiday observance of Veterans Day today, Monday, Nov. 12, will be marked in Walworth County by a number of events:

Delavan

There will be a veterans program at 8:30 a.m. at Delavan-Darien High School and one at 1:45 p.m. at Phoenix Middle School.

East Troy

A reading and salute featuring color guard and rifle squad begins at 11 a.m. outside the American Legion hall, located one block north of the square on Church Street.

Elkhorn

A social hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. for all veterans ($10 fee) at VFW hall, 16 S. Broad St.

Fontana

Legion and VFW program at 10:30 a.m. at Fontana Elementary School, 450 S. Main St.

Walworth

Assembly in auditorium with gun salute and presentation of colors with American Legion Post 102, 9 a.m. at Walworth Middle/Elementary School, 121 Beloit St.

Veterans appreciation open house with honorary guest Richard Reed, 9 a.m. to noon at Exemplar Financial Network, 630 Kenosha St. in Walworth.

Veterans program for residents, 10:30 a.m. at Golden Years, 270 Ridge Road in Walworth.

UW-Whitewater

Alumni Center flag pole ceremony, 11 a.m. The campus community will be celebrating Veterans Day with a firing of three volleys and the playing of taps by the Army and Air Force ROTC. Chancellor Richard Telfer, City Manager Cameron Clapper, Veterans and Service Members Student Organization President Jacob Crouse and a military representative will speak.

Free lunch for veterans at UW-Whitewater dining services from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Veterans must be in uniform or present their military ID or DD214.

Art gallery reception, University Center, noon to 1:30 p.m. “Stories of Soldiers,” with contributions from campus and community members with an emphasis on World War II.
