Biden to visit Aldrich school Friday
BELOIT Vice President Joe Biden will make a campaign stop late Friday morning at Aldrich Middle School, 1859 Northgate Drive, Beloit.
Doors will open for the free event at 9 a.m. to accommodate security checks. Tickets are required and are available at Obama for America campaign offices at 314 State St., Beloit, and 111 W. Milwaukee St., Janesville. Tickets are first-come, first-serve.
Beloit police warned the visit likely will create traffic delays and delays in non-emergency police services, particularly when Biden "is moving in the community or interacting at local venues," according to a news release.
The Beloit School District issued a news release stating it is honored to have one of its facilities chosen to host the vice president. The event will include students from the district's secondary schools.
"Just as students are encouraged to participate in student government, stay on top of current events and understand their civil responsibilities in a free society, we are pleased to have them see the democratic process up close," the news release reads.
A permission slip going home with the selected students gives parents the option to have their students not attend the event. The district stated it takes no position on which candidate or party should be endorsed.
"The district is excited that he will be in our schools and community and have extended the same offer and welcome to the Republican Party and Paul Ryan," the district stated.
Limited event parking will be available on the Aldrich athletic field north of the school.
