Badger FFA members reap awards at 83rd state convention

LAKE GENEVA--Lake Geneva’s Badger High School’s Future Farmers of America members raked in numerous awards, recognitions and degrees at the 83rd Wisconsin FFA Convention held in Madison June 11-14.

Among the awards received are:

--State Degrees: Shanna Mercier and Victoria Rife. To be considered for the honor—the highest degree the state association can bestow on a member—the FFA member must have earned and invested $1,000 or work 1,500 hours; be an FFA member for at least two years and had 360 hours of agricultural classroom instruction; given two speeches of at least five minutes each; been involved in at least five FFA activities above the local level; and participated in five cooperative activities.

--Three Star Leader Award: Shanna Mercier. The award recognizes a member from a local chapter for being actively involved in chapter activities in student development, chapter development and community development.

--Proficiency Awards: Sixth place Gold in veterinary medicine proficiency went to Katrina Hanrahan; second place Gold in goat production proficiency went to Jordan Bauer; and first place Gold in nursery operations proficiency went to Shanna Mercier, who will be proceeding to compete in the FFA Nationals. The application for these awards includes an eight-page overview of a member’s knowledge, goals and accomplishments; a resume and a recommendation.

Badger also received chapter awards in the categories of veterinary science career development event, scrapbook competition, website competition, chapter membership recruitment award and national chapter award.
